Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission

When the VEOHRC released their Progress Evaluation Audit for the inquiry into workplace equality at Ambulance Victoria, they needed a set of infographics and illustrations that would deliver information in a clear and inclusive format.

The Brief

For the final phase of the VEOHRC inquiry, the Commission had decided to go with a digital approach. Pivoting from the long format publications created in phase one and two of the inquiry, it was a key priority in this fiinal phase to deliver the information in a format that Ambulance Victoria staff would be able to access from a variety of devices including reading it on their phone.

The Design

Working with the team at VEOHRC, we created a set of illustrations that could reflect the diversity of staff both in the field and working at desks in Ambulance Victoria. Using illustrations that aligned with the brand style of the Commission, I was able to create images that included people from diverse cultural backgrounds, regional and metro locations, people working with disabilities and people from the LGBTIQA+ community.

The images of people were used throughout both the infographic and workplace storytelling of the audit across the website, documents and resource fact sheets. The infographic itself was detailed in its delivery, we decided that this would work best if we could create an animation that would slowly deliver the data sets - this needed to adapt to work on different platforms (such as phone, tablet and desktop computer).

The Impact

The final audit for Phase 3 of the inquiry was key to understanding the continuing change the organisation must follow to create a workplace that staff feel safe and included. The design of the infographics and illustrations have been a key part of moving this workplace forward and considering the changes that need to be made.

Information that’s easy to follow

The process for creating the infographic included mocking it up in Illustrator for the client, then using a digital program to set out the information in the website. You can view the full infographic in action over here: Ambulance Victoria Phase 3 Infographic

Illustrations that bring stories to life

The digital report linked together the final recommendations, barriers and enablers to those being followed through and standards for what the commission expected. Through illustration and icon design we helped to bring some of these key themes to life for the Commission and Ambulance Victoria.
